Mile One Centre is pleased to announce the return of Canadian icon, Stompin’ Tom Connors in concert at Mile One Centre on Friday, July 31st, 2009.

This summer our beloved Canadian treasure Stompin’ Tom Connors adds another major accolade to his long list of honours with the release of his very own Canadian Postage Stamp, which he calls his "stamp of approval". In celebration of this and with the success of his most recent studio album The Ballad of Stompin' Tom he has decided to hit the road as a special thank you to his fans.

The tour kicks off July 21 and wraps up on August 29. Some highlights along the tour include his first concert in Newfoundland in almost 20 years! The tour will feature special guest Tim Hus who was personally contacted by Stompin' Tom to join him on the road.

To date, along with many other songs, Stompin' Tom has written over 160 songs specifically about Canada - with some of his finest featured on last year's critically acclaimed The Ballad of Stompin' Tom...

"Yet here he is, aged 73, with The Ballad of Stompin' Tom, his 50th album, raising the bar. Twelve of the 16 songs are new and they're among the best he has ever written." - Greg Quill / Toronto Star

"A no-frills set of simple, straightforward and sincere songs about cowboys and Canada, hockey and heartbreak, strummed on Tom's old acoustic and sung in his weathered voice. Just as it should be." - Darryl Sterdan / Sun Media

2009 began with the release of an updated version of Proud Canadian, which is a collection of his most signature songs and on June 16 three classic albums will be re-released: Fiddle & Song, Live At The Horseshoe and My Stompin' Grounds. Fans can also purchase these releases digitally - as they join his ever-expanding digital catalogue which launched last year on Canada Day.

Stompin' Tom started his career in 1964, overcoming a life of poverty and hard knocks to become the revered recording artist he is today. As an officer of The Order of Canada, he has also been honored with the Queen’s Jubilee Medal, The Governor General’s Performing Arts Award and SOCAN’s Lifetime Achievement Award, as well as being the recipient of three Doctorates from the Universities of St. Thomas in Fredericton, UPEI in Charlottetown and U. of T. in Toronto, respectively. He has also written two autobiographies - the first of which was a No. 1 best-seller.

Tickets go on sale Friday, May 15th at 12noon. Tickets are $47.50 including tax, plus surcharge and can be purchased at the Mile One Box Office; by phoning (709) 576-7657, (toll free) at 1 800 361-4595 or online at www.admission.com.
