Sonic Concerts presents Great Big Sea LIVE in Atlantic Canada, March 11 to 14, 2009.
After a successful tour of Canada and the US, Great Big Sea will return home to perform in support of their GOLD-selling, ninth-studio release Fortune’s Favour during a tour of Atlantic Canada, March 11 to 14. Special guest is Spirit of the West. Dates include:
March 11 - Moncton, The Coliseum
March 12 - Halifax, The Metro Centre
March 14 - St. John's, Mile One Centre
Released in June, Fortune’s Favour was produced by JUNO-award winning singer/songwriter/producer Hawksley Workman and features 14 songs recorded in the fall of 2007 at Great Big Studios in St. John’s. The album’s first single, “Walk On The Moon,” celebrates remarkable personal achievements and became the soundtrack for a series of Olympic highlight videos posted on Youtube by fans. The group’s latest single, “Love Me Tonight”, was released to radio this month.
The Toronto Star said the album, “...balances high gloss and the band's well established folk preferences, Fortune's Favour benefits as much from the attention paid to the vocal work – harmonies are big, bright and robust – as to the instrumentation and the architecture of the songs.”
In a testament to the band’s success, every album they have recorded has now been certified GOLD or PLATINUM in Canada. After over 15 years together as a band, GBS (as they are affectionately known by their fans) have built a rabid following and unfailing reputation as one of Canada’s finest live acts.
Together for 25 years, Vancouver’s Spirit of the West released their anthology Spirituality: A Consummate Compendium 1983 – 2008 earlier this year. Upon its release, the album was in the Top 10 on iTunes.ca and Amazon.com and the band was also inducted into the Western Canadian Music Association's 'Hall of Fame' in October.
